Operation
During September 2019, 10 SMART drumlines were deployed for 22 days. Environmental conditions determined how long SMART drumlines were deployed on any given day, ranging from 6:39h to 10:36h. On average, SMART drumlines were deployed daily for 9:20h.
Catch
During September 2019, 1 target shark was caught (Table 1): one male White Shark at Stockton Beach. Two non-target animal were caught including two Bronze Whalers at Bar Beach and Stockton Beach (Table 1). All animals were released alive.
Comments
When the contractor responded to four alerts that had no catch, they found that one hook had no bait remaining, two hooks had 40% and one hook had 100% of the bait remaining.
All three sharks triggered an alert to the DPI contractors who responded and were at the SMART drumline within an average of 13 minutes.
